Welcome to CannaQAWiki. This wiki continues to be a work in progress, but new content is slowly being added. For example, check out the latest third edition of our guide Past, Present, and Future of Cannabis Laboratory Testing and Regulation in the United States. Additionally, the guide Starting a Cannabis Testing Laboratory has been updated for 2021, and the LIMSpec for Cannabis Testing has been released. Check back soon for additional content!

"Cannabis sativa research trends, challenges, and new-age perspectives"

Cannabis sativa L. is one of the oldest known medicinal plants, cultivated for at least 10,000 years for several agricultural and industrial applications. However, the plant became controversial owing to some psychoactive components that have adverse effects on human health. In this review, we analyze the trends in cannabis research for the past two centuries. We discuss the historical transitions of cannabis from the category of "herbal medicine" to an illicit drug and back to a medicinal product post-legalization. In addition, we address the new-age application of immuno-suppressive and anti-inflammatory cannabis extracts for the treatment of COVID-19 inflammation. We further address the influence of the legal aspects of cannabis cultivation for medicinal, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological research ... (Full article...)

I'm pleased to announce a new guide that has been released, the LIMS Buyer’s Guide for Cannabis Testing Laboratories. This guide recognizes the challenges of the current cannabis testing environment for laboratories and identifies the value of the laboratory information management system (LIMS) towards lessening the impact of those challenges on the cannabis testing lab. Not only does it address how the acquisition process should be approached and who the key players are, but it also addresses the current state of cannabis testing, and how well-implemented informatics can play a role towards a more efficient and compliant lab. Finally, an RFI for evaluating cannabis testing LIMS vendors is included to help you with the acquisition process. I hope you find this guide helpful!

This is just a brief update to announce two things. First, the guide Starting a Cannabis Testing Laboratory has received a slight update for 2021. Some of the statistics were a little outdated, and some of the citations were broken. This update also tweaked grammar a bit more and added a few new sentences to clarify points. However, given that U.S. Federal legalization is still not a reality, most of the content still remains highly relevant, if not largely the same. Second, a specification document—LIMSpec for Cannabis Testing—developed for cannabis testing software systems, e.g., LIMS, has been released. It's largely derived from the base LIMSpec document on LIMSwiki but tweaked to address the needs of a cannabis testing laboratory. Hope you find these documents useful!
