This is just a brief update to announce two things. First, the guide Starting a Cannabis Testing Laboratory has received a slight update for 2021. Some of the statistics were a little outdated, and some of the citations were broken. This update also tweaked grammar a bit more and added a few new sentences to clarify points. However, given that U.S. Federal legalization is still not a reality, most of the content still remains highly relevant, if not largely the same. Second, a specification document—LIMSpec for Cannabis Testing—developed for cannabis testing software systems, e.g., LIMS, has been released. It's largely derived from the base LIMSpec document on LIMSwiki but tweaked to address the needs of a cannabis testing laboratory. Hope you find these documents useful!

A fourth edition of Past, Present, and Future of Cannabis Laboratory Testing and Regulation in the United States has been released! This latest iteration updates many statistics, adds new regulation updates, and significantly updates many of the guide's resources such as the list of approved cannabis cultivators and testing laboratories. The update also adds additional context to standardization and accreditation efforts, including enforcement and quality subsections. It also adds a few more contextual bits of information about laboratory automation and its role in the cannabis testing lab.

I'm pleased to announce a new guide that has been released, the LIMS Buyer’s Guide for Cannabis Testing Laboratories. This guide recognizes the challenges of the current cannabis testing environment for laboratories and identifies the value of the laboratory information management system (LIMS) towards lessening the impact of those challenges on the cannabis testing lab. Not only does it address how the acquisition process should be approached and who the key players are, but it also addresses the current state of cannabis testing, and how well-implemented informatics can play a role towards a more efficient and compliant lab. Finally, an RFI for evaluating cannabis testing LIMS vendors is included to help you with the acquisition process. I hope you find this guide helpful!
