Bika LIMS is an open-source laboratory information management system (LIMS) developed by Bika Lab Systems (Pty) Ltd. and, tangentially, the SENAITE Foundation.

In October 2017, companies Riding Bytes and Naralabs began collaborating on an open-source derivative of Bika LIMS, citing how the application had grown "monolithic" in nature, "which hinders maintenance tasks and makes it harder for newcomers to contribute to the project."[1][2] They envisioned an open-source LIMS that was more modular and developed under a specific set of coding standard, making it easier to maintain and contribute to. SENAITE was the end result[1][2], and Bika LIMS developer Bika Lab Systems inevitably decided to migrate to SENAITE as Bika's back-end code.[4] The software has been designed for multiple industries, including the cannabis testing industry (as an add-on).

Features

Per the company's website, Bika LIMS is suitable for cannabis testing labs because of the following features[5]:
